Stephen Hawking’s Universe.

Darlow Smithson Productions asked Camouflage to visualise the workings of Hawking’s mind for the ground-breaking series, ‘Stephen Hawking’s Universe’ (Discovery Channel). The first series explored the subjects of Aliens, Time Travel and The Story of Everything. This sequence saw Camouflage’s CGI and VFX traversing an extreme scale of elements – from analysing subatomic particles through to sequences travelling across our galaxy, to Mars, past the moons of Jupiter to ex solar planets, light-years from Earth.

Whilst attempting to visualise the mysteries of the universe, Camouflage had the arguably greater task of producing innovative ways to represent the thoughts of Stephen Hawking himself, through thoughtfully presented reconstruction and beautiful visual effects.

Initially brought on board as a lesser CGI contributor, Camouflage were soon being utilised for many more shots than originally planned, due to their creativity, fast turnaround abilities and cost effectiveness to make the budget go further. Ultimately, Camouflage delivered well over half of the VFX content for the series.

Camouflage received the huge accolade of being nominated for an Emmy Award in Visual Effects following the success of this first series, and were soon commissioned for a second series.
